There are 2 Bay State Textile bins at the transfer station. These bins accept both recyclable and reusable textiles and the town received a rebate check each month based on the tonnage. The company sorts the items accordingly. There is also a Red Cross bin at the transfer station. This bin is for reusable textiles and the Red Cross sells their items to various vendors.
Textiles are no longer allowed in the trash and should be recycled. Any items that have oil, grease, etc. should be placed in the trash and not the textile bins. There is list of acceptable items for Bay State on the transfer station website. Thank you. Thank you for all the replies to my question! It seems like I’m not alone in my confusion! The similarity of the bins at the dump and their close proximity to one another (adjacent), along with ambiguous signage makes things unclear. I followed a tip to go to the Hartwell/Magic Garden parking lot where there are two well-labeled bins from Bay State Textiles for recycling. Know ahead: all items should be bagged. Thanks for the tip! As for the dump, who knows how many deliveries of useful clothing have gone off to the shredder inadvertently. Anyway, at least for now: try Hartwell bins for recycling textiles—and to be on the safe side, a trip over to Crosby’s Goodwill drop-off trailer for clothing in good condition. I hope this is useful information!
