Plus not all items labeled compostable are allowed. Black Earth has this warning, *Compostable products must be BPI, CMA, or OK Compost certified. Items that say biodegradable, compostable or ASTM-6400 alone are NOT accepted. Look for these logos, check the search tool on each website, or contact the product company if unsure.
So ok if purchased from Black Earth but people should check those from other sources.

The plastic bags I usually see are the pale green type, and they are compostable.  One can purchase them from Black Earth or maybe other places.

But of course if people are using standard plastic bags that will be a problem.

I find that every time I drop off compost items there are plastic bags of stuff in the bins, despite a big sign saying no plastic bags. I wonder if that is the problem.

A comprehensive list of compostable versus non-compostable items is given on the Black Earth website:

One tricky item is produce stickers – they are not compostable and must be removed.

Could you please tell us what the non-compostable items were? (So people don't repeat that mistake.) Thank you!

Due to cross-contamination of non-compostable items in the compost bins, Black Earth refused the bins on Wednesday. Therefore, the compost container will be closed on Saturday, October 11, as we work to resolve this situation. Compost material can be placed in the household trash or brought back on Wednesday. Please do not leave compost material outside the container.   Thank you for your cooperation and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you.
