I agree with Sarah! Although we have weekly trash/recycling pickup, and composting, at our condo complex, I still visit the transfer station every week or so. I used to volunteer there and enjoyed examining the wine bottles that people put on the table. Now I bring larger items that I don't want to leave for our trash guys, make contributions (and withdrawals) at the swap sheds, including looking for jigsaw puzzles for my housebound brother. I remember one resident writing that his goal was to go home with less stuff than he brought! And I've signed many a political petition.

But so is it part of the culture and tradition. Folks used to make the trip to “The Dump” a event for social engagement. Lots of politicking took place at The Dump. You could also see what your neighbors were consuming, what mail order purchases looked like, what newspapers were being read…and, what “liquid refreshments were being enjoyed. You knew when someone had a big party…and you weren’t invited. And, the swap shed finds furnished many a dorm room and first apartment. We could tell when a new household had arrived as trash bins often appeared at the end of the drive. It often caused a certain titter. It was a source of pride that we retained this small-town eccentricity-The Dump. We were country! We used to be smug in noting we sure weren't Weston but, I suspect times have changed. > On Oct 20, 2025, at 7:25 PM, Nick Gardner <[email protected]> wrote: > > Something I've been quite curious about since moving to Lincoln a bit over a > year ago has been why Lincoln doesn't have trash pickup.
