Sean,

Thanks for your response. Slava was actually using custom fonts in HTML members as well, so that led me to my solution.
The difference between what Slava was doing and what I am doing is that Slava was setting the font of the HTML member globally, whereas I was setting multiple fonts in the member using HTML font tags.

I recreated the custom font and this time only included a limited character set. Upon import, I again included an even more limited character set. I then uninstalled the font from the system, and this time it worked-- the special characters displayed the custom glyphs within the custom font.

Here's what I think might have happened: The embedded font was originally screwed up somehow-- possibly some invalid characters, and though Director imported it (the entire set), the external, installed font was still being referenced.

Thanks to you and everyone for bearing with the madness, I am just happy to have resolved the issue. The font installation approach would have opened up a whole warehouse full of canned worms. ;)

Best regards,

Andy Driscoll

I know you were asking Slava this question, and that if you were to ask me
the same my answer would be "No", but that being said I'd like to suggest
that you ensure your custom font is in castLib 1 and in a low numbered
slot, perhaps even with preload set on it. My reasoning is that you may
need Director to have "seen" and/or loaded the font member before any text
members that reference it. Worth a shot...
