I think this relates the kind of volume the projector is residing on.
Are they playing over the network?
If so:
Is the server non-windows?
If possible have them map the server-volume to a drive-letter and 
access the volume through the drive letter.
Or, have them try to play it locally.

Maybe it's something else, or just plain related to something Win2K specific.
I don't have so much experience yet with Win2K.
