Hi Kerry & Genevieve (and all)
> >How about the 3D section? > First class. Absolutly! But we should mention that, as James'book is not only focused on 3D, it doesn't go so deep than other books that talk only about that (at last I think... I havn't yet read Paul Catanese book and others...) But James pedagogy, for all the sections of the book, is very inductive and efficient : it shows you the basics and the traps, as if you're trying it on your own, then he'll explain theses pitfalls and how to work correctly. this is very efficient as - following this road - you'll remember all the pitfalls and potential problems really weel (way better than if he had shown you directly a full working copy of each movies.) So the 3D sectionsis - IMHO - very good to have a solid working knowledge of all basics and intermediate of 3DLingo (and optimizatons), but don't look there for advanced Havok... (maybe in the second edition? ;?) I belive the best sections are the smus and imaging Lingo ones, as relevant material in theses topics are hard to find, and James knows A LOT about it! > >Is it worth its' weight in gold? > It's the best book in its class--advanced information for advanced users. absolutley! I don't know about it's weightn as I only read drafts and my paper copy is still on the road to France, but it's the first book I ever seen where _all_ samples and tools provided with the chapters are full part of the pedagogiq contents! James has really done a great Job. For intermediate developpers, you'll have the tool, and for adcvanced developpers you can explorer the source of the tools... very very impressive !! > I learned a lot from > reading it--James is one of the masters (and a prince of a guy to boot). Same cheering here ;?) Althought I've already read the working drafts I'm feverishly waiting my true paper copy... really a good step in the Lingo development story... a must read! and no I didn't earn anything on the sales, I'm just enthousiast for this new reference birth ;?) cheers, .seb [To remove yourself from this list, or to change to digest mode, go to http://www.penworks.com/lingo-l.cgi To post messages to the list, email [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Problems, email [EMAIL PROTECTED]).
