> >Hi Kerry & Genevieve (and all)
Hi Seb (I guess it must be short for Sebastian :) ) Thanks for taking the time and trouble to write such a detailed reply. Thanks Kerry for stimulating such an interesting conversation. > > >How about the 3D section? > > First class. > >Absolutly! But we should mention that, as James'book is not only focused on >3D, it doesn't go so deep than other books that talk only about that (at >last I think... I havn't yet read Paul Catanese book and others...) You should read Paul's book. I don't know any others. For myself, at least, it was not too difficult to understand as I have learnt 3DS Max. Thanks to Agustin for pointing me to this book! > >>So the 3D sectionsis - IMHO - very good to have a solid working knowledge >>of >all basics and intermediate of 3DLingo (and optimizatons), but don't look >there for advanced Havok... (maybe in the second edition? ;?) Why? Is the Havok website's open source examples and demos too simple? I thought quite a few were very advanced. I enjoyed playing the car demo and can't wait for this source code to be on-line. >I belive the best sections are the smus and imaging Lingo ones, as > >relevant >material in theses topics are hard to find, and James knows A LOT >about >it! You certainly are a walking advertisement for his book! > > >Is it worth its' weight in gold? > > It's the best book in its class--advanced information for advanced >users. > >absolutley! >I don't know about it's weightn as I only read drafts and my paper copy is >still on the road to France, but it's the first book I ever seen where >_all_ >samples and tools provided with the chapters are full part of the pedagogiq >contents! James has really done a great Job. For intermediate developpers, >you'll have the tool, and for adcvanced developpers you can explorer the >source of the tools... very very impressive !! Sorry, I was speaking figuratively. No offense meant, o.k.? What I meant was whether the book was a valuable source in the learning of 3D and other lingo topics. And whether it was a useful book and worth buying as a reference. If anything is worth its' weight in gold, this means that it's very ,very good, to the point of excellence. >and no I didn't earn anything on the sales, I'm just enthousiast for this >new reference birth ;?) > If James was reading all this now, I'm sure that he would be very pleased with this list. I have never seen such enthusiasm for a book! By the way, just curious - how did you all get a copy of the drafts or manuscripts to read?
