I agree there are issues of relative costs that give the appearance
of a regional bias. But I'm personally not comfortable thinking it's
an issue of fair play. Macromedia is not responsible for
international cost differences and I don't believe it's justified to
suggest they should offer a discount as a result of those
differences. That might make sense in a more socialist or communist
milieu, but such activity would have a chilling effect on free
enterprise and economy, wouldn't it? I mean if I can't get fair
market value for work I've done, why bother doing it? And don't I
have the right, as an independent entity, to determine for myself
where and how I can get fair market value?

On paper probably. But if ethics are a concern how about just buying
a copy of Director used someplace -- an older version -- and then
getting an upgrade?
I'm solidly in the camp, BTW, of those people who believe there
should be a crossplatform bundle for Director.
Or... hey, this is a fun thought ... how about you buy the core
technology -- the code that renders the score, the cast, etc. -- as a
series of external files for some flat fee. Then you pay for the
*engines* of your choice and plug those engines into your
distribution. Sort of like using a stb now to load a given Director
file -- you've got the files and can put them wherever you want to,
and pay some fee for the actual loader bit.
