VPlayer also supports chroma, so since it's 3D, you could make the background some unused color that won't appear in the fire (like lime green) and filter that color out at playback time. That should give you the effect you want.

TO do this we have been looking into the vplayer xtra (by penworks) thinking to use a second video clip as the alpha mask. But it looks like the vplayer xtra supports only static images and not videos as alpha masks.
Is there any way to accomplish this in director ? If not, what application we may use ?
