Hello Mark,

Thank you for your detailed response, This is a big help...
The WebXtra from tabuleiro.com looks great. I will take a closer look.
I.E. 4.0 or higher requirement does not seem like a problem, most
Users likely would be higher than this any way I would hope.

Question, Do you know of a good way to pre-determine if a person has
Internet access or not from lingo?

Thanks again
Tom

Hi Tom

Couple of issues you may need to be aware of. There are several versions
of
the web browser control out there and it may depend on whether you end
user
is web connected and has the latest version of IE to really work well.
However there is an xtra out there for displaying a browser within
Director
on windows machines. But by the looks of it, it is also dependent on
having
at least IE 4.0 or higher installed on the endusers machine. I believe
that
requirement would also be required of using the web browser control by
itself.

http://xtras.tabuleiro.com/products/web/whatis.htm

its about $199.95

Either way, you need to be careful of the type of content that you will
be
showing as well. I don't believe that Shockwave or Flash content can
accurately be displayed in the web browser control or the webxtra from
tabuleiro. I think there is some sort of interference with the Director
runtime but I could be way off base on that so you may need to explore
it a
bit.

You may also wish to study the documentation on using an active-x
control in
Director. I believe there is some documentation on macr site concerning
this
as well. Do a search on active-x under the director support portion of
the
Macr. site.

One that jumps out is:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/director/how/d65/tutorial/activex/cont
rol_
xtra06.html

I know this probably doesn't completely solve your problem, but it might
point you in the right direction.

You may also want to search the archives for Direct-L at
http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/director/

to see if there is any additional info and suggestions there. I know the
issue has come up from time to time in the past couple of years so you
might
be able to get some additional direction from searching that archive..
searching on "browser control" for the year 2001 returned 122 hits.
Searching on Active-X return only 2 hits.. so watch what you search on.

Sincerely
Mark R. Jonkman
