Tom, It seems that you've already recieved some good advice but I haven't seen this one discussed:

If you are trying to use Director's own ActiveX Control Xtra then this is expected behavior. The ActiveX Control Xtra is not compiled browser safe and therefore it cannot be used in Shockwave.
