I haven't (never touched Flash MX), but I can look it up.
It does a fairly decent job, but you need DirMX for playback.

The other thing is that it affects one of our authoring software, so

than appending this to the FAQ I can't guarantee that they'll do the

thing.
Not sure what you mean by that, but in general pathnames > 127 chars 
seem to fail in Director, as you've noticed. It's rather irksome.
