I like to think of it as a stage with its curtains down. All the actors and
stage hands are scurrying around getting every thing in their places
(mostly pixels), then suddenly the curtains rise! (and another off-screen
buffer is getting ready to start scurrying).
It's a bit simplistic, but it's how I've thought of double buffering since
my old Amiga days.
