Bhakti, I agree that Lingo isn't the best choice if speed is the priority.

However, I don't think it's silly at all to compare speeds of different 
syntaxes within a language. You have to consider a lot of factors in 
choosing a development environment--speed of execution, speed of 
development, robustness of the environment, cross-platform capabilities, 
and so on.

Once you choose an environment, it's certainly legitimate to want to get 
the best performance out of that environment. When I wrote mainly in C, I 
would look at the compiled code, using a disassembler, to find the most 
efficient ways of doing things.

Of course, it's a waste of time to do that with all your code--you find the 
bottlenecks, and optimize those.

Regardless of language.
