Sure Shockwave 3d is great. And with tight integration with the authoring
environment, this should be a breeze to work with.
All those Lingo engines out there are great(Dave's and the t3d engine come
to mind). But they are unwieldy(no offense guys, you're much smarter than
me to put it together in the first place). But did anyone ever try to make
a 3d object with loads of curved surfaces with Lingo? Sure ended up with a
frighteningly large number of sprites. Instead I'm looking forward to
creating the models in my favourite modelling package, simply importing it
in....and voila! I'm doing interactive 3d!!! :-)
And if Macromedia can integrate streaming into the 3d engine, it'll be
simply fantastic.
Just one thing. Lets hope that this stuff isn't plagued with the same
issues of poor documentation like MUS did. Ofcourse, Macromedia is a lot
more enthusiastic about this than MUS. Maybe the two will be compatible
too. That'll definately help breathe some life into MUS. Multiplayer 3D
games in Director are still a distant dream for most developers.
And considering that Intel is on it, I guess it's gonna be better optimised
for Pentiums.
On the whole, I'm looking forward to Shockwave 3d....

Pranav
