Hi John
What if you on occassion put in an unloadmember() command with no specific
reference to a member, which should if I remember right, unload all
castmembers, you might take a performance hit but it might clear out of
memory some of the media that is being not directly unloaded. Something like
on a next button and/or back button have it unload all members before or
just after going to the next frame or marker that you wish to display.
There will be a performance hit, but it might be enough to jog Director into
unloading stuff. Have you altered the unload settings for any of the
members?
I'm assuming perhaps wrongly that you are using AVI's.. is it even possible
to export these as QT and see if that makes any difference??? It might be
too late in the game to try that but it might be your only choice in making
sure that the AVI's loading aren't what is causing the problem. 70Mb is a
fairly large chunk of memory to handle, I don't do much work with AVI's or
QT (except this past week and a half which has been all QT at night). Is it
possible to create a backup of your movie, take out all the large AVI's and
replace them with some small simple avi of similar proportions etc.. and
then running your movie through QA and see if you see the same memory
problems (that might be quicker than converting to QT if you are using
AVI's - which is an assumption that I have, you didn't say whether you were
using AVI, QT or MPEG).
I have heard a lot of negative about D8, but I'll be honest, I've done some
pretty hefty projects in D8 that have been running as shockwave and CD-ROm
deliverables without any major hitches. Some people might blast me for
saying that in my experience, D8 has been reasonably stable in my books...
but then again I don't use every feature of it.
Sincerely
