It should work, but yes, I think it's undocumented, meaning maybe it
breaks sometimes. It has worked for me in the past anyway, although I
haven't yet tried it with D8.5.

Projector name: Proj.exe
Splash name:    Proj.bmp

As long as you're naming the files right, you should be good to go.
You're including filename extensions, right?
