I rarely watch iview on a computer. I notice that lots of the new "smart" TVs (probably android) have iview apps that work fine. I generally watch iview on linux kodi. Works fine. If it requires an account I use a throwaway mail account (like for instance https://maildrop.cc/) and change it every so often.

It annoys me that iview won't allow me to access it from a VPN server in
Australia.

It works for me in Firefox on Linux, which must be about as far from the
mainstream as you can get.

Then you must be running a supported version, Hamish. But in any case, the issue is not
whether someone is running a "mainstream" version as proclaimed by the ABC, but
whether they're running standard protocols as defined by ISO and its delegated
organisations.

Attempting to watch iView on a "supported" browser or O/S displays:

Sorry, there has been a technical error (a technical error??) with this video
stream. For tips and troubleshooting please check our technical support page .

Error Code: 246000

So we then follow
https://iviewsupport.abc.net.au/hc/en-us/articles/360000959316-Why-am-I-seeing-error-codes-in-my-web-browser-
 to find the explanation below, which probably means zilch to most ABC viewers:
o       the user is running an "older" (TBA) browser;
o       the user is running an "older" (TBA) O/S;
o       and/or the user is running a "security-browser" (TBA).

But don't despair, dear non-technical viewer, the problem _may_ go away if you
_try_ these options:

o       upgrade your macOS;
o       update from Windows XP or Windows-7 O/S;
o if you are receiving this error message on a Chromebook, resetting your
browser settings may (MAY?) resolve the issue.

In my opinion one problem is glaringly obvious: all this is written by ABC
Geeks for other Geeks, not for real users.
