If fear of China results in Australia increasing aid to the Pacific,
that is not such a bad thing. Assuming the aid is for projects which
help the citizens, not just propping up useless prestige projects.
On the face of it, better telecommunications for the region sounds okay.
A previous example was the Australian government funding a fiber optic
cable to the Solomon Islands.
There was a completion associated with the project, on how to make use
of the bandwidth. I suggested providing online learning:
