Hm. Sorry Craig and I think my ANZ adviser has been misled or has out of date information. Rodger is right and my answers today from the branch are inconclusive at best.
The young teller didn't know about PayWave and had to ring the card services people anyway. When he did he wasn't able to articulate the issue of RFID access vs transactions on the card so, when he moved up to a superior in card services they wanted to get the message across that if I confirmed an amount with the merchant before I waved the card then that meant my transaction was bonafide in some way. I'm still confused by this reasoning and of course I don't really care because I've no use or interest in PayWaving. The teller explained from their records indicate that I had PayWave on my ANZ corporate card but it has no standard RFID markings so I -think- he is wrong. I cannot change that card for an RFID-free version if it does. However, on my -personal- card, when I received a new card in future with the PayWave markings I can ring and they will "disable the feature" but I get to keep the same card with PayWave on it. So you can see the issue of card reading wasn't really understood by the teller or the card superior either. I'm not sure even business customers are going to get reliable answers at the retail banking level. What I'd really like to know is if there are any legal impediments if a card holder wants to disable the RFID feature themselves; which would be an interesting technical exercise anyway. Sorry for the noise Linkers. I'll relurk and get my facts right in future.
