There is a fashion for including "critical thinking" in university graduate attributes. ANU did a survey of such attributes: http://www.gradskills.anu.edu.au/desired-graduate-attributes But I am not sure how you teach or test "critical thinking". If you can't teach it, or at least test it, then it is just more marketing hype. ACS was reported to be reviewing their ICT Profession Core Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and were interested in what employers want in terms of "soft skills" for graduates: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/latest/ict-tertiary-courses-under-review/story-e6frg90f-1227239639197 My suggestion was e-portfolios for teaching soft skills: http://www.tomw.net.au/education/online_professional_education/eportfolio/ Dr Will Uther, from Google Sydney talked to the ANU students in February. He said Google wanted graduates who could code and also communicate: http://blog.highereducationwhisperer.com/2015/02/google-wants-coders-who-can-communicate.html So "The Internship" is not so fanciful after all. ;-) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Internship -- Tom Worthington FACS CP, TomW Communications Pty Ltd. t: 0419496150 The Higher Education Whisperer http://blog.highereducationwhisperer.com/ PO Box 13, Belconnen ACT 2617, Australia http://www.tomw.net.au Liability limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation Adjunct Senior Lecturer, Research School of Computer Science, Australian National University http://cs.anu.edu.au/courses/COMP7310/ _______________________________________________ Link mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.anu.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/link
