Yesterday I moved into a rental property in Forde, a Northern suburb of the ACT, built to use Transact. My ISP, iinet, had the NBN ready and waiting for me when I moved in. All I had to do was plug in the modem I already owned and it worked. I went for the basic/unlimited data, which was about what I was paying for ADSL2 in Sydney. I used to get about 3Mbps. I did a speed test and am now getting 11Mbps. File downloads were at 400KBytes/Sec now I'm getting 1.2MBytes/sec. However, and this is the relevant bit, when I plugged my TVs in, I couldn't get a signal. In talking with the neighbours and my recollection of Transact, it seems that free to air TV came via the Transact link. When I investigated the box on the wall, where the NBN FTTP now terminates, there are four coax cables terminated in thin air, i.e. not connected to anything. It seems the owner has not done what some of the houses around here have done, which is retrofit a rooftop antenna. A visit to the managing agents on Monday is on the agenda. I don't know what the previous tenants did re free to air, or what the owner's reaction is going to be. My plan B is to put up a telescopic antenna mast/antenna which I can get from Jaycar. I don't know the history of Transact/NBN in the ACT but some of the neighbours claim that Transact was much better than the current NBN offerings. -- Regards brd Bernard Robertson-Dunn Sydney Australia email: [email protected] web: www.drbrd.com web: www.problemsfirst.com Blog: www.problemsfirst.com/blog _______________________________________________ Link mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.anu.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/link
