Longer ago than I like to remember, we started looking at JES2 MAS and wondering what
affected
its performance as a spooling and scheduling system in isolation.

We came up with the idea of the "RABBITS time". The procedure was to cold-start JES2
and
release a single job that replicated itself into the internal reader with
randomly-generated
jobnames. A stopwatch recorded the elapsed time from first release to the first 'SPOOL
CRITICAL' message.

We played around with numbers of initiators, various settings, spool layouts, etc.

If it makes any sense - most of the people in the little group doing the playing later
became
the founders of Beta Systems.
