Status: SuSE is installed and running. Everything that was "in the box" is working: httpd, ftp, telnet. I fired up XDMcp and started an x-session, with surprising (and very positive) results. Samba's the goal for today. A note for any who follow: I installed using an ftp connection to my desktop PC, and installed from a three CD set. YaST installed everything from the first CD, and skipped three items from the third. I switched CDs and was able to install the three additional items. But then in the steps that followed, YaST expected to be able to access things on the first CD again. There was no simple or graceful way to recover (that was immediately obvious, anyway), so I ended up formatting the disk and starting over. So, after installing items from the additional CDs, be sure to put CD 1 back in the PC before continuing the install. Otherwise, you'll end up with a system that won't boot. ---- Robert P.
