I did exactly that on a R63 instead of a R83. The Linux distro I used back
then was SUSE 7.0 with the 2.2.16 kernel. Not sure what you can expect with
one of the newer distros. It seemed to work ok.

Subject: Linux/390 on a 9672 G2 processor

Has anyone here brought up a Linux/390 guest running under VM/ESA 2.4.0 on a
9672-R83 processor? I understand that the R83 will not have the IEEE FP
unit, but this user is very persistant.

The initial uses for this guest will be to provide POP/PROXY and FTP
services.
