Well, you certainly don't need to buy one.

Download an ISO from www.knoppix.de.  When you go out, burn a CD and
leave it with the client.  It'll give you a fully-functional, bootable
Linux system that will not touch your hard drive unless you ask it to.
And it should run on any x86 recent enough to boot from CDROM.
