Hi Phil,

Based on the response from Query VMLAN, you have the latest
available service for z/VM 4.3.0 Guest LAN support. My first guess
would have been that VM63261 was not applied. My best guess
at this point is that we encountered an error (a badly formed
packet or a bad buffer pointer) and the data device dropped from
"qdio active" mode to "QDIO-Eligible". If this happens again,
check the QUERY OSA response again:

lnxnfsp2:~ # hcp q virtual osa
OSA 7500 ON NIC 7500 UNIT 000 SUBCHANNEL = 0004
     7500 QDIO-ELIGIBLE
OSA 7501 ON NIC 7500 UNIT 001 SUBCHANNEL = 0005
     7501 QDIO-ELIGIBLE
OSA 7502 ON NIC 7500 UNIT 002 SUBCHANNEL = 0006
     7502 QDIO ACTIVE
     7502 INP + 01 IOCNT = 35276120 ADP = 104 PROG = 000 UNAVAIL = 024
     7502 OUT + 01 IOCNT = 60012344 ADP = 000 PROG = 128 UNAVAIL = 000
     7502 OUT + 02 IOCNT = 00000000 ADP = 000 PROG = 000 UNAVAIL = 128
     7502 OUT + 03 IOCNT = 00000000 ADP = 000 PROG = 000 UNAVAIL = 128
     7502 OUT + 04 IOCNT = 00000436 ADP = 000 PROG = 128 UNAVAIL = 000

In this case, 7502 is "QDIO ACTIVE" (which means data transfer takes place
using
queues established for this I/O device). If QUERY LAN and QUERY NIC look
normal,
but QUERY OSA looks like this:

lnxnfsp2:~ # hcp q virtual osa
OSA 7500 ON NIC 7500 UNIT 000 SUBCHANNEL = 0004
     7500 QDIO-ELIGIBLE
OSA 7501 ON NIC 7500 UNIT 001 SUBCHANNEL = 0005
     7501 QDIO-ELIGIBLE
OSA 7502 ON NIC 7500 UNIT 002 SUBCHANNEL = 0006
     7502 QDIO-ELIGIBLE

If my guess is correct, you will need to detach the virtual NIC, define it,
and couple it
to get Linux to totally reset the interface. Since this user's network
connection is down,
the easy way is to shutdown -h now, logoff, and logon. If logoff/logon is
not an option,
I suggest the following sequence from the Linux guest:
(1) ifdown hsi0
(2) hcp detach nic 7500
(we want Linux to run here and notice that some devices are gone)
(3) hcp define nic 7500
(at this point Linux will initialize the adapter, but don't stop here)
(4) hcp couple 7500 to system vmcmgh2
(now qeth may complain about the LAN cable being removed... and
then alert you that it was plugged in)
(5) ifup hsi0

Check Query NIC DETAILS and Query Virtual OSA to see if the IP addresses
are established and the data device is QDIO Active.

Regards,
Dennis
