Arghh! I just downloaded and installed Zebra and it appears to be working -- sending and receiving RIP2 packets. Thanks for letting me know about Quagga. I'll consider upgrading to it.
In reponse to Alan's inquiries, we just migrated from VM 2.4. I was told that the TPCIP in that release [2.4] did not support multicast, thus the reason for running RIP2B. We also have routing devices on the network that can only accept RIP2 packets, thus RIP2B was chosen. My intention was to get z/VM 4.4 up and running [exactly as before], using the same ETC GATEWAYS and TCPIP PROFILE statements. I am still using virtual CTC connections to all my guests. I felt it necessary to get up on the new software BEFORE trying any of the fancy features of the new z/VM [ guest LANS and such]. The less variables introduced into the migration equation, I thought, would make life a little easier. I still have an issue with using the ROUTED virtual machine and have a PMR open and we're in the process of tracing it. I'm getting great support from IBM and that is appreciated! Some listers have mentioned I should go to MPROUTE etc....That may be a possibility in the future, but as I see it, if ROUTED is still supported, it still should work - it worked fine on 2.4. It supports RIP2. Use GNU Quagga instead of Zebra, as Zebra is dead and Quagga rose from its ashes. -- - mdz
