We use the Tivoli Storage Manager server running on OS/390 as the backup target for our Windows servers/workstations and my Linux/390 systems. I haven't had to use the TSM client under Linux very often but I have restored a single file, a sub-directory, a filesystem without problems. My advice is to try this if you already have TSM as a backup server in your organization.
