I believe Rick has stated that the kernel module part of cmsfs is broken in 2.4, and shouldn't be used at this time. To use the cmsfsxxx commands, it's not needed. But, from looking at the Makefile, it appears that cmsfsvfs.c is what makes up the kernel module, so you can put it in there.
