Simple answer: no.

Linux uses caching in RAM extensively. You won't get a clean backup
unless the Linux guests are down. Same with VM spool/page space, etc.

See the patches I just posted for Amanda and the accompanying paper for
a way to do Linux backups cleanly. The VM disks don't change much, so
you could probably manage them with flashcopy.
