Back about 18 months ago, I installed Suse 7 on my MP3000. It has emulated 3420 tape drives defined.
So, instead of tieing up our real tape drives, I attached a 3420 to Linux and tried to use it.
Off and on, after months, I was told that Linux didn't support the round tapes. As soon as I attached a square tape drive to Linux, all the coding I had tried, worked. Not saying that 3420's are completely not supported, but all documentation I had, including redbooks, only showed 3480 and above in their examples.
