I know you're not in the "support" business but I'll ask anyway.

I'm attempting to update my origianl S390 Tao Linux to the latest one. I'm running
Tao on a real IBM mainframe in an LPAR, no z/VM. I've tried a couple of different
approaches to update my distribution.

First, I download the DVD ISO to my PC and extracted the files onto my hard drive
using a Windows utility called MagicISO. I then FTP'ed the contents of this directory
to my Tao Linux LPAR. I updated my yum.conf to point to my directory where I FTP'ed
the files to. I ran "yum update".
For a while everything looks good, yum finds everything he is looking for. But when I
actually get into the part where yum is extracting files from the RPMS I get
extraction errors on many RPMS. I can't remember the exact error message but it is
something to the effect of archive extract for file xxxxxx failed for cpio, or
something like that. Well I thought, I'm not doing things exactly like I should, i.e.
FTP'ing the ISO image to my Tao LPAR and mounting it on the loop back device. Why
didn't I do it that way, well the ISO image is 3.3 Gb and I don't have a 3390 model
disk drive that holds that much. So by extracting the ISO image my PC first I can
remove the SRPMS, which frees up quite a bit of space.

Second, I restored my Tao DASD images from a backup taken prior to my attempted
update. I'm using Linux CDL formated volumes so I can shutdown Tao and use my OS/390
backup/restore utilities. After the restore I just ran "yum update" and allowed it to
download everything from the Tao site. But the same thing occurs when it starts
trying to extract files from some of the RPMS. The same files/problems as in my first
attempt.

Do you have any words of wisdom?
