Why not run the fax gateway on a small intel box running the
same version of linux as on your mainframe?  To make things a
little more seamless, you could probably even netboot the intel
box from the mainframe.

With the problems we've had with our Windows based fax server

some upper management has requested that we investigate the
possibility
of running this on Linux on z/Series.  From what I have seen so far,
it
seems that a PC based server with a multi port phone card is what is
required.
