VM doesn't shield from Linux that there is 6 paths available, but Linux sees them, too. I.e. if you vary CHPIDs offline the guest Linux will also see them disappear. But you are also on the safe side with Linux as we can handle channel outages, no matter if running under VM or LPAR. Assuring such is part of a rigid device qualification program :-)
