Did you shutdown your Linux servers before you took the backups? The archives are filled with discussions about the need to shutdown your Linux servers before performing an external media-level backup. Either shut them down or do your backups from within Linux. If you have fast copy services on your dasd, you can use those to reduce the amount of down time if you choose to do an external backup (e.g. IBM Flashcopy). Building clustered solutions allows you to shutdown a member server for backup without taking out the service. The same issue is present if you have shared LUNs in a distributed environment. You can't use Server B to backup a LUN actively being used by Server A.
