To quote Alan Altmark: Nobody listens to me. Sigh. One more time: Unless your Linux systems *are completely down* at the time of backup, full volume dumps from outside the Linux system are more than likely to be useless. You need both image-level AND backups from WITHIN the Linux system to have a consistent, reliable backup. > What is everyone using for Linux under ZVM backups? Bacula (open source/freely available), FDR Innovation ($), or TSM ($$$) are the most popular candidates. All three also provide file-level backup and restore as a bonus, but you still have to periodically take the Linux system completely down periodically if you want a fast image restore capability. You can probably salvage this mess by booting your install image (you did save one, right?) and linking the disks from the failed guest, rewriting the IPL records using zipl and then rebooting the guest. -- db ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
