John,
so why don't such companies enforce Digital Signatures on all emails? Is it
that they do not want to publish public keys? (Though that would be unnecessary
if used only for their own tracing purposes.)

Personally I wish Digital Signatures were the norm, it would make it easier to
block SPAM.
It would also be useful for mailing lists to enforce memberships etc. The
actual signature could be removed by the mailing "agent" before distributing to
all registered members.
(As I am discussing Mailing lists it stops this from being off topic right :-)

Back to disclaimers, the web is full of examples of questions on the legality
of email disclaimers. Why do they come at the end of an email - after you have
read the email?
Can you imagine the military putting "Top Secret" on the very bottom of all of
their secret documents?

But my real complaint is that they are so verbose, and totally inappropriate
for a public mailing list. Take a snippet of your company's disclaimer for
example:
"This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information
intended for a specific individual "

Individual? You sent it to a mailing list the whole world has access to. That
is the complete opposite of confidential !!!!!!!!!!

and:
"copying, or distribution of this transmission, or taking any action based on
it, is strictly prohibited. "

Well I guess I'm in big trouble now then, oops.....

Mark
