Given that you have only 31-bit hardware, you will need to explore using Debian or older versions of the mainstream distributions. Is there any possibility of upgrading the VM release? 4.1 lacked a number of important and useful features, such as guest LANs, etc -- if you could get z/VM 4.4 installed, you would be in a much better position. Beyond that, it's hard to tell what kind of help you're looking for.
