Given that you have only 31-bit hardware, you will need to explore using Debian 
or older versions of the mainstream distributions. Is there any possibility of 
upgrading the VM release? 4.1 lacked a number of important and useful features, 
such as guest LANs, etc -- if you could get z/VM 4.4 installed, you would be in 
a much better position. 
 
Beyond that, it's hard to tell what kind of help you're looking for.

I'm trying to build up a server consolidation model on IBM mainframe using
VM,Linux.My available H/W is 9672-R86 or 36 with 8GB ,9672-R44 with 2GB
storage and Z/vm version 4.1.Could anybody help me to configure such server
, current workload is small Linux servers like (FTP,NFS,Samba,DMZ,etc.).The
Linux version depends on performance experinced by the references.
