While z/VM 4.1 and your 9672s are ok for a Proof of Concept, they have
serious drawbacks:
- No VSWITCH
- No QDIO Assist
- No z/Architecture => no 64-bit Linux => limited support by IBM
middleware (if you care)
- No IBM support for your virtual data center (z/VM)
- Limited scalability of z/VM 4.1

IMO, a proposal to build any kind of business-critical server
consolidation model should include upgrades of both hardware and software.
 If you knew that you couldn't get an electrician or air conditioner
repair man to come in and fix a problem in your raised floor, would you
put any business-critical servers on it?

Doing a PoC with the the old software will mean that you have to extra
work to discover whether problems found during the PoC would be addressed
by newer levels of h/w or s/w.
