Thanks - what about assigning host names. For example if your host name were generated (based on local conventions) as C1LVM001 how would you track this and how would you assign the 002, etc. host names?

Static addresses assigned via DHCP. There are a number of nice ones available on sourceforge (some handle both DNS and DHCP): http://sourceforge.net/projects/dixie/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/webdhcp/ and many others. One you may be particularly interested in is netreg (which forces registration of any new server with the DHCP service and assigns each new MAC a permanent address entry as well as providing a nicely searchable SQL database of same). http://sourceforge.net/projects/netreg/ Very handy for figuring out what happened in a network trace. -- db ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
