Dave Jones answered it well. Let me also add some Unix-speak to that. Say you've got a Linux virtual machine that has become isolated (no TCP/IP and no shared disk). But being on VM, it still has VM spool space and may very likely have RSCS connectivity (an IBM NJE kind of network). The crippled system is named "target" and the lifeboat system is called "source". You have some stuff on "source" that you need to get to "target" for the latter to come back to life. Here's what you do.
# on "source" hcp spool punch to target cd /where/stuff/is tar cf /dev/pun the needed files # on "target" cd /where/stuff/lands tar xpf /dev/rdr Then use the files thus sent to resurrect "target". Sweet! I'm assuming that this driver Linus has accepted is Malcolm's (or a derivative). I surely hope so. That was a nice bit of work. -- R; George Wallace <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by: Linux on 390 Port <[email protected]> 07/17/2007 12:56 PM Please respond to Linux on 390 Port <[email protected]> From George Wallace <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To [email protected] cc Subject Fwd: VM unit record device driver submitted to Linus David, It sounds like an interesting interface, but I'm curious: Can you tell me what the implication of this is? What type of features/functions would this assist in? thanks. Not available in any distribution yet (coming soon for testing/unstable in Debian etch), but very promising. -- db ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 --------------------------------- Need a vacation?
