That shouldn't be necessary.  The system normally figures out why type it is, 
if the appropriate file system driver is loaded.  In this case, because one of 
the files was greater then 2GB in size, the .iso was created using UDF, not 
ISO9660.  If he were to do a "modprobe udf" followed by his original mount 
command, it should work fine.  But, as you noted, that particular .iso file 
isn't what he expects.  I think he can make good use of it, but I'll talk about 
that in a reply to his email.
