We do use ACLs on linux fairly heavily, and they work well for us.  I
just didn't know anything about z/OS HFS ACL's.

The only issue I'm aware of for using ACL's on linux was already
mentioned: many standard backup tools don't back up or restore them.
Caveat emptor, I guess.
