Is it GPL? Last I knew (not so recently) Sun had its own
open source license. I don't remember the terms anymore.
Usually you have to register (free) to get the source.
Hi Glen,

Have a look at http://openjdk.java.net/ Sun has other open source
licenses that we use for different projects (OpenSolaris is under
"CDDL", for instance), but Java is under GPL

For license/legal details, click on "Legal" (left navigation) or go
directly to http://openjdk.java.net/legal/
For source code, see the other links on the left navigation under
"Source code", or use the "Browse the source code on the web" link to go
to http://hg.openjdk.java.net/

regards, Jeff

PS: Annd now, a "message from my sponsor". All can feel free to ignore
if they prefer: Sun is far and away the largest contributor to Open
Source of any institution, and including technology core to our products
and services. Things like OpenSolaris, the Verilog source of our SPARC
T1/T2 processors, Java, Netbeans, OpenOffice, NFSv4, JXTA, MySQL (new),
VirtualBox (new), Glassfish, Jini, X contributions, GridEngine, hunks of
GNOME, PostgresSQL, JavaDB, etc.
