Your performance problems are unlikely Linux but "system" related. I would highly recommend going thru the "Best practices" presentation for configuring your system at "velocitysoftware.com/present/config". The whole point of this presentation is to set your system up so you don't run into problems that experienced folks know how to recognize.

Since we know very little about this z/VM and zLinux I would appreciate any hints. Performance Monitor shows some paging and swapping but from our MVS point of view, its now bad.
