Please, don't waste your time trying to do a proof of concept project with a totally unsupported distribution. Both Novell and Red Hat offer no-cost evaluations (180 days and 60 days respectively) and you're far more likely to get real answers from people on this mailing list. In addition, ask IBM to lend you an IFL, some more real storage, and a copy of z/VM. A lot of people who didn't get IBM and the Linux distribution teams involved wound up failing miserably, because performance stank for various reasons. (Mainly by trying to run Linux in the "leftover" capacity of their existing hardware setup.)
