Thanks for the 'vmcp q md 201 loc' command. A new one for me and it indicates the server is indeed using the volsers I want it to use.
OK, it was me who used the same labels in Linux as for VM. From what you are saying I can label a volume as LNX001 in VM (cpfmtxa) but label it 0201 in Linux (dasdfmt) so it matches the VM directory. I think I like that idea. I'll experiment with it. If that were not the case, I believe Linux had already failed to find its partition ;-) Apparently the person who formatted the disks in Linux decided to use the same labels as CP was using for the real volume. The only real requirement for the Linux volume labels is that they are unique in the virtual machine. Some folks use the virtual address (which is the default). But any scheme for that will do. I would not see a need to go and change the Linux labels. You can verify the disks with vmcp q md 201 loc and that will reveal the real volser and starting cylinder. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
