Up until this point, WebSphere, perhaps in conjunction with Apache or IBM HTTP Server, has been the most frequent application people have been implementing. Right behind it would be Oracle/DB2 databases and some Oracle applications. What I've been seeing lately is an uptick in the number of people installing SAP, and not in a small way. IBM is pushing Cognos on Linux for System z quite a bit. On the less-frequent side, Communications Server for Linux, and Communications Controller for Linux have worked out very well for a number of customers. Consolidating applications that run on software that is licensed per-processor is where you should focus in general. That's where you'll get a huge amount of cost savings. Just be aware of the workload characteristics of the application and avoid those that are super CPU-intensive. (z10 processors are now the fastest out there, but the $$/cycle is still higher than other hardware.)
