I mean... you could go and buy an 8086 and run Andy Tananbaum's Minix 3, and that would make a LOT more sense to me, at least you can learn something about operating systems that way. Perhaps with mainframe I/O capabilities you'd get Windows to stop thrashing long enough to get some work done? But no, because the virtualization will chew up enough resources that you won't see any gains.
